Job Summary

This claims professional must have an extensive background in the re/insurance industry, including familiarity with various lines of property/casualty business.  The candidate will be an integral part of SCOR’s client focused initiative and must have a high level of claim knowledge and technical ability, a working knowledge of reinsurance terms and concepts, and must also be able to consistently deliver excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Claim Experts are hands-on managers of individual higher exposure/complicated claims, expected to regularly conduct outside claim audits and client visits, initiate regular contact with underwriters, actuaries and accounting staff, and have the ability to review and analyse overall loss portfolios.  The position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Claims located in the Toronto, ON.  Some travel is will be required.   


Key duties and responsibilities

Oversee and manage a portfolio of reinsurance claims as well as certain high level excess claims which entails:

  • Evaluating, developing, reporting on and resolving complex and/or higher value individual claims
  • Approving financial transactions on claims within his/her authority
  • Collaborating and assisting in the account management of assigned treaty accounts. Collaborating with other internal underwriting departments, including the MGA ad SCOR Business Solutions (SBS) staff members on those books of business, with respect to the claim issues.  Serving as the local “face” of SCOR to Canadian clients for claim related purposes.
  • Conduct claim audits and provide marketing support relating to cedents and brokers
  • Analyse loss and expense trends on loss portfolios and assist in the development and implementation of plans to improve results
  • Anticipate client needs and expectations and deliver superior customer service
  • Work effectively with others within the claim department, particularly with other claim experts and those staffing the claim administration unit, to ensure prompt turnaround and response to clients
  • Coordinate claims data relating to catastrophe losses which include Canadian exposures
  • Opportunity to contribute to the company’s international community of claims expertise by sharing knowledge and experience on a global basis

             Keep abreast of claim and industry developments/trends in order  to maintain a high level of expertise



Required experience & competencies


Experience:  8+ years of re/insurance experience.  Expertise in reinsurance treaty claims is desired. Familiarity with MGAs/TPA program business and/or high level excess claims is a plus. Experience in handling claims relating to multiple property and casualty business lines is required. 


Personal Competences: Superior claim knowledge and handling as well as account management skills are required.  The candidate must be an exceptional team player yet capable of operating independently. He/she should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be comfortable presenting ideas and other information in front of a group, and have the ability to bring resources together to achieve desired outcomes. IT literacy is a must, as is the ability to analyse data and information. 




University degree preferred

Post-graduate degree and/or industry certification/designation a plus.  

French language skills a plus.
