Mission / Job context

The Senior Technical Director provides technical underwriting services dedicated to APAC Fast Growth Markets cedants within SCOR P&C Reinsurance and acts as an internal technical support to the Treaty underwriters:

  • Perform Client Portfolio reviews for the selected clients as part of their Account plan
  • Contribute advanced primary insurance expertise to the Treaty underwriters when they review Special Acceptances mainly in Property, Engineering, Marine and Liability, in close coordination with the related LOBs specialists
  • Contribute support to Treaty underwriters in all their other technical support to cedents, including trainings, technical meetings, and seminars


These services are critical to the success SCOR has achieved and intend to continue to develop in the APAC FGM region. The positive impact of these services translates into improved performance metrics for both the client and SCOR, leading to closer relationships and then direct access to specific information enabling partnerships to develop new Products. Therefore, the job holder also contributes to the development of elected business initiatives until proof of concepts are established.



Key duties and responsibilities


  • Define and then monitor the Technical Services plan for selected cedants for the year to come within the Client Management process. Technical Services include:
  • Client portfolio reviews - assessing the risk characteristics and the level of adherence to guidelines and reinsurance-treaty wordings, especially for distressed programs, with a heavy focus in understanding the portfolio, the underwriting framework and practices, its risk selection, underwriting & pricing processes. In the aftermaths of the review, the Technical Director assesses whether risk decisions are appropriate, documented, and supported, provides value-added feedback to the cedant’s management relating to performance and underwriting practices and have the possibility to recommend modifications or actions for portfolio improvements if needed.
  • Cedant on-site technical training as well as preparing and presenting technical papers during Campus Seminar or Market events
  • Participate to new projects with P&C Partners when direct UW expertise is needed


Externally, in close coordination with the Business Unit, provide technical expertise to cedants, especially:

  • Organize, manage, and execute technical missions for dedicated clients such as specific tailormade trainings for cedants or Client portfolio reviews, as defined in the UW Plan with a focus on Managed Clients
  • Provide support in technical matters related to the treaties and/or cedants, such as Special Acceptances review, Loss Assessment, and Technical Advice, including support to cedants in direct insurance underwriting of complex or specific risks


Contribute to the Business Initiatives activity developed at the Fast Growth Markets regional Level, with a strong focus on its applicability to APAC FGM:

  • Expand the eight key “business initiatives” currently identified in FGM, including the three Global Initiatives managed by P&C Partners, across APAC geographies to develop synergy
  • Drive efficiency & track the activities of each of the Working Groups established by Business Initiative leader(s) in the APAC area, and provide back-and-forth feedback to/from the Reinsurance Management
  • Support the leader(s) of each of the business initiatives to formulate “key objectives” and define project charter with both quantitative & qualitative goals, incl. definition of success and the measurement metrics
  • Each initiative should target a maturity level in one or more markets (in defined time frame) to translate these goals into proof of concepts before being transferred to P&C Partners for its industrialization




Required experience & competencies


  • Higher education such as a master’s degree in engineering, actuarial science, or finance
  • At least 10 years of experience in primary insurance and / or reinsurance underwriting (techniques, products, etc.)
  • The nature of the position requires a perfect command of English and frequent travel

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills which is to be exercised in the context of representation for SCOR Global P&C at conferences, meetings or professional associations
