Role summary

  • This role-holder is expected to lead a team of modelling professionals to deliver Cat analytics to business stakeholders in APAC.
  • Also to drive and lead Nat Cat related projects / initiatives for APAC markets.
  • Expert in Cat modelling with strong communication and leadership capability.
  • Contribute to global Nat Cat initiative and special projects.
  • Job dimensions include both technical and client facing opportunity to work closely with internal and external stakeholders (regional Cat manager, underwriters, pricing actuaries, risk managers, brokers, clients, model vendors, academia).


Key duties and responsibilities

  1. As lead analyst, responsible for the overall Nat Cat pricing and accumulation control for key markets including India, Australia, and South East Asia.
  2. Lead a team of modelling professionals to deliver Cat analytics to business stakeholders, using vendor models and internally developed tools for catastrophe perils.
  3. Able to independently structure and complete more complex modeling analyses.
  4. Capable of conducting Cat peril research and model evaluation studies, and manage projects as required.
  5. Mentor junior analysts.
  6. Actively contributing ideas and avenues for exploration throughout the year to both the APAC and Global CAT teams, where appropriate.


Required experience & competencies

  1. Strong analytical, problem solving approach.
  2. Clear communicator, able to structure an argument and explain complex issues in a simple way.
  3. Experience in using 3rd party CAT model(s) required such as RMS and/or AIR.
  4. Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel or Access.
  5. Strong organizational and time management skills required – ability to multi-task.
  6. Team player, interested in sharing knowledge.
  7. 6 – 12 years of experience in the reinsurance industry is preferred.
  8. SQL, VBA or GIS programming skills are a distinct advantage.



Minimum Educational Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in a highly numerate structured discipline, such as actuarial science, engineering, computer science.
