- Department

As an innovation booster, P&C Partners enables deals and provides services, which will ultimately enhance relationships with (end-)clients and strengthen SGPC positioning in the value chain. Within P&C Partners, the Retrocession Department is an integral part of the underwriting strategy of SGPC and ensure the protection of SCOR’s capital as well as providing underwriters with sufficient capacity.

 

- Job Summary

Within P&C Partners, and in relation with the other retro account managers, you will be responsible of running the assigned outwards reinsurance and retrocession programs for SGPC (primarily CAT covers). This involves:

  • actively contribute to the definition of the retrocession strategy and the design of the Programs for the segments assigned
  • Placing and managing programs
  • Market-facing duties with extensive relations with brokers and retrocesssionaires

 

- Key duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief Retrocession Officer, the key responsibilities of the account manager are the following:

  • Establishing the retrocession strategy:
    • Creative force to understand SGPC underwriting needs and translate them in retrocession requirements
    • With the help of the retrocession CTO team, defining the best purchasing strategy under constraints
    • Liaise with all internal stakeholders: CUOs, SCOR P&C senior management, finance, risk management & accumulation team, internal modeling…
    • Liaise with external stakeholders: brokers and retrocessionaires

 

  • Placing program:
    • Preparing submission package: narrative, data and contract in liaison with contract wording colleagues  
    • Liaising with brokers and markets during placement
    • Lead placement until completion and follow-up on contracts

 

  • Follow-Up & marketing
    • Provide requested support to Finance for the administration of the contracts especially during quarterly closing
    • Lead reporting and evaluation of the placements
    • Conduct comprehensive and in-depth industry research and innovation (exposures, business strategy, players, tools, etc.)
    • Entertaining relations with brokers and markets related but not limited to placements: involve travelling and regular and relationship building

 

  • Miscellaneous
    • Contribute to the SCOR retro team market intelligence (gathering data on retro market development - Products/Solutions and Markets/Carriers) 
    • Perform in a fast-paced international environment
    • Help develop the reporting capabilities for third party capital offerings

 

- Required experience & competencies

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience including experience in underwriting and/or cat modeling
  • Knowledge of treaty and/or facultative reinsurance underwriting

Personal Competences:

  • Thorough understanding of portfolio underwriting, ILS and/or reinsurance market dynamics
  • Combination of strong quantitative/analytical skills, attention to detail and client focus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects & deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Capability to interact with clients professionally and make a good impression
  • Strategic and creative thinking; distinguished written and oral communications skill - attention to detail in all materials
  • Strong team player

Managerial competences:

  • Leadership skills.
  • Co-ordinate objectives amongst multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle multiple files concurrently.

 

- Required Education

University graduate with relevant insurance professional & business management qualification.
