- Department

The Risk Coverage department is part of the CRO area and is responsible for the following main activities:

  • Definition and development of SCOR’s Risk Management system (eg. Monitoring of risk exposure, ALM, liquidity frameworks)
  • Oversight and support of Risk Management activities to ensure consistent approach across all SCOR entities in scope
  • Risk analysis and  reporting to Executive Management and the Board
  • Management of the Capital Shield Strategy (risk transfer)
  • Management of the Group Referral process

Each activity is carried out in close liaison with:

  • the other departments of the CRO area (Risk Governance, Risk Modelling, Group Actuarial and Prudential Affairs )
  • SCOR Global Life, SCOR Global P&C and  SCOR Global Investments
  • CFO and COO areas

 

- Job Summary

SCOR’s P&C Risk Management

Within the coverage team, the head of P&C risk maintains  a close proximity with the P&C business unit and is in charge of SCOR’s P&C key risks.  He or she closely collaborates with other teams on transversal risks.

This includes the effective operation of current risk management mechanisms relating to SCOR’s P&C business and the improvement of  the effectiveness of these mechanisms as well as the development of new mechanisms when required.

Oversight of Risk Management of the P&C Legal Entities

Responsible for specific risk management issues relating to the Legal Entities including the management of relations with local regulators, and ensuring efficient and consistent risk management across all of SCOR’s P&C Legal Entities.

The responsibilities of this position can evolve according to SCOR’s requirements.

 

- Key duties and responsibilities

SCOR’s P&C Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain the risk management mechanism for SCOR’s P&C business, including but not limited to, risk appetite and limits, evolution of risk exposure in coordination with other teams within the Risk Coverage department
  • Production of risk analyses, in relation to SCOR’s P&C business
  • Coordinate the production of material for the quarterly P&C Risk and Capital Committee
  • Manage Group referrals for P&C including strategic developments  
  • Interact and build relationships throughout the SCOR Group and the P&C business unit, particularly in relation to risk management

Legal Entity Risk Management

  • Ensure risk appetite, risk monitoring and reporting are appropriate to the nature and size of the business and are consistent across SCOR
  • Review analyses and reports that are produced by, or for the Legal Entities

Team Leadership

  • Lead the team of Legal Entity CROs or Risk Managers reporting to the position
  • Coordinate the team activities and tasks
  • Set the stage for a high‐performing and successful team
  • Set individual performance and development objectives; support employees in reaching them and

       review their performance

  • Communicate constructively and openly to staff and management
  • Manage company resources responsibly and effectively

 

- Required experience and competencies

Over 10 years practical experience in P&C (re)insurance risk analysis

Hard skills

  • Significant experience in P&C business experience
  • Good understanding of the principles of risk and capital 
  • Knowledge of the principles and underlying concepts of ERM
  • Ability to grasp, create and develop new practical risk-related concepts to further progress the effectiveness of internal and external ERM communication
  • Solid experience in risk analyses

- Required education

University degree in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or comparable field. Qualified actuary or equivalent  quantitative background
