Position

Risk Management Actuarial Analyst

 

General Description

SCOR Global P&C has an exciting opportunity in Risk Management for the Americas. The successful candidate is technically trained in risk & capital modeling and experienced in Property & Casualty (P&C) lines of business. The successful candidate will help promote SCOR’s risk management framework as well as liaise with business lines to ensure adherence to, and compatibility with, SCOR Global P&C’s risk appetite and business strategy, respectively.

 

Key objectives

  • Assist in developing risk identification, measurement and reporting capabilities to thoroughly address existing and emerging risk considerations for management information.
  • Assist in producing solvency, prospective capital modeling and scenarios assessment analytics in the context of the ORSA process to maintain legal entity soundness and compliance.
  • Assist in retrocession testing, including assessing the impacts of structure changes and large business transactions on retrocession pricing and solvency.
  • Contribute to SCOR US, SCOR Canada, Latin American and SCOR Group Risk Dashboards.

 

Assist in the following efforts with the SCOR P&C Americas Risk Management Assistant Vice President Actuary by working closely with risk owners of SCOR Global P&C Americas on risk identification and quantification to address:

Risk Identification and Quantification –

  1. Risk Enquiry & Applicability: Identify and quantify risks within individual functions.
  2. Emerging Risks: Assist with risk quantification and reporting to the Emerging Risk Committee.
  3. Scenario analysis, including extreme scenarios: Contribute to quantification of scenarios including mitigated impact analysis for SCOR Group considerations. Produce reports supporting findings.
  4. Capital modeling: Work with the  Actuary on the Group Internal Model and the Underwriting Risk Model to produce economic capital estimates as required. Assist with production of prospective capital assessments.
  5. Risk Appetite and Tolerance: Assist with implementation of risk appetite and tolerance process, particularly as they relate to risk modeling.
  6. Underwriting and strategic planning: Assist with evaluation of capital impact of the proposed underwriting plans. Perform required analyses to ensure consistency with stated risk appetite and tolerance levels.
  7. Retrocession planning and testing: Assist with retrocession program evaluation of SCOR’s legal entities within the US, Canada, and Latin America, ensuring proper protection and efficiency.  Perform testing regarding structure changes and assess impact of new underwriting plans and large potential deals.

Risk Mitigation and Monitoring – Assist in the development of appropriate monitoring tools, key risk indicators and in the quantification of risk mitigating and/or capital actions to remedy identified issues.

Group Standards and Policies – Assist in ensuring adherence within the Americas Risk Management function to all Group ERM-related standards and policies.

 

ERM Framework – Support Group Risk Management in respect of the development and further improvement of the Group ERM Framework and related systems and processes. Assist in adopting and promoting the Group ERM Framework where appropriate for local needs.

 

ERM Culture Americas – Assist in increasing Group ERM awareness throughout the Americas Risk Management function by means of organization and performance of ERM-related class room trainings and e-learning sessions, distribution of publications etc., particularly as it relates to risk and capital modeling, emerging news, and trends impacting applicable lines of business.

 

Essential Skills

 

  • Actuarial experience within primary insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Strong analytical and statistical modeling skills.
  • Background knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Broad knowledge of the US insurance regulatory environment. Familiarity with Solvency II, Canadian and Latin American regulatory environments a plus.
  • Extensive practical experience with MS Office software, specifically Excel and Access. Experienced with statistical programming languages such as VBA, Python and/or R.

 

Desirable Skills

 

  • Broad actuarial experience, practical familiarity with pricing, reserving and capital modeling operations.

Required Experience and Educational Background

 

  • BS or higher in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, ERM, Economics or similar fields of study
  • 5+ years of work experience in insurance, financial or similar industries.

 

  • Successful completion of 5+ actuarial exams through the Casualty Actuarial Society or similar institution
