Job Summary

The Actuarial Analyst develops insights on Client and Industry morbidity and mortality outcomes through data analytics and builds actuarial models to set reinsurance rates for Client partners.  In addition, the Actuarial Analyst will partner with the wider Team and participate in research & development projects contributing to the advancement of team capabilities and improve Client offerings.  This position is based out of the Toronto office.  

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Work with Actuarial Pricing Team to deliver a quality and timely priced product to meet SGL and customer needs.
  • Create and/or populate actuarial models using tools such as AXIS as well as develop insight by from Client experience studies and other data analytics
  • Develop mortality and morbidity experience studies and analysis supporting Pricing assumption setting process.
  • Drive advancement in analytic capabilities and process efficiency in actuarial tools
  • Prepare data documentation package.
  • Work with Marketing Actuaries, Operations, and Pricing Actuary to ensure that they have all information required for Data Assumption Review Committee and Business Review.
  • Continue ongoing enhancements to performance management capabilities.
  • Assist on various projects involving Life Solutions initiatives as they arise.
  • May perform other duties as required

    Required experience & competencies



  • 0-3+ year’s experience relevant to Pricing function
  • Actively pursuing Actuarial designation or advanced education in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science or equivalent
  • AXIS experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of common data science programming languages and visualization tools such as Python, R, SQL, Tableau and advanced analytic capabilities a plus
  • Desire to continue to grow skills and knowledge of predictive modeling concepts, machine-learning approaches
  • Will participate in Actuarial Student Program until FSA is obtained.
  • Solid mathematical analysis skills with strong problem solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated/self-starter.
  • Must be able to work effectively independently & as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in windows-based software (Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Regular attendance and ability to work extended hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
