Job Specification


As a member of the Global Business Solutions claims team, the role holder will work closely as a claims expert with other members of Business Solutions and SGPC to evaluate and adjust claims within a claim’s assessment process across individual claims within the Business Solutions portfolio.  They will work with underwriters in a collaborative way to provide input on the lessons that can be learned from the claims portfolio they are managing on a day to day basis.


There will be a working bias towards major claims in complex Financial lines, casualty and construction business lines as a specialist focus within an overall framework of expert claims management. They will work with colleagues to ensure that Business Solutions claims handling is a consistent process. 


As a claims technical expert, they will contribute towards SCOR taking an enhanced lead position on complex risk transfer programmes.   They will be supported on this journey by a high quality mentoring and training programme that will be tailored for them.


They will also provide claims support as needed to address specific claims within the claims portfolio of the Channel Managing Agency (TCMA) on an as needed basis.  They will act as a reference point and provide support in respect of the SCOR Treaty claims portfolio, again on an as needed basis.


Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Delivering expert claims adjusting to SCOR Business Solutions in Lines of Business as needed
  • Managing a portfolio of claims: assess and evaluate policy liability and to calculate reserve exposures, assess settlement values of claims
  • Negotiating settlement of claims to successful conclusion
  • A focus on helping underwriters develop their portfolio of risks and manage these effectively
  • Working with and independently of underwriting (based in London and Paris) to develop and maintain client relationships and be responsible for key accounts
  • Represent SCOR and the claims department internally and externally including review meetings with brokers and/or policy holders on an as needed basis
  • Where required deputise for senior colleagues
  • Take an increasingly active role in working with SCOR underwriters to provide claims feedback to assist on developing the energy book of business
  • Potential for involvement in any relevant market committees / initiatives on behalf of SCOR
  • Participate in reviews of service providers to determine a preferred supplier approach for the energy lines of business.
  • Work within SCOR ethical and service standards as well as fulfilling compliance and regulatory requirements


Required education

  • Preferably educated to degree level.
  • Preference for engineering, legal or other specialist in practice qualification


Required experience & competencies

  • Significant experience in an International risks market claims handling role. The candidate must be able to demonstrate consistent continuing successes with recognition in the claims market within an underwriting, service provider or broking organisation
  • Proven specialist technical capability together with applied practical and commercial business skills
  • Ability to establish an authoritative network and relationships with clients, brokers, underwriting and market communities
  • Expertise and knowledge of claims handling in multi-national risks market
  • The ability to develop an understanding and detailed knowledge of specialist product line
