Job Summary
This role is physically based in the Innovation Team in the London office but the candidate will also be an important part of the Global Data Analytics Team.
The UK Innovation team has a broad spectrum of responsibilities, such as involvement in new product development, new distribution opportunities, underwriting and claims innovation, and extended actuarial analysis. The team’s projects are increasingly involving advanced data analytics, programming and machine learning techniques and we are seeking a candidate to help us adopt good practices, make the most of our data and help train the wider SCOR UK team. 
The Global Data Analytics Team has the responsibility of increasing and sharing data science knowledge within the division. The Global Data Analytics Team provides technical assistance in business projects and works on research projects that further the aims of SCOR’s strategy. 
The candidate will be based in London but, as a member of the Global Data Analytics Team, may also participate in cross-countries projects and will benefit from a community of data scientists and engineers to share knowledge with.

Department
The Information Systems Department (ISD) is composed of 171 people, organized around in 3 entities: Management & Control, Functional, Technical.
It ensures the smooth operation, security and evolution of the Group's information system. With regards to its internal customers, it plays a role of service provider, project partner and innovation leader.
IT Functional is the IT pillar in charge of Projects & Maintenance activities, with 3 business units-dedicated teams:
-    SGI
-    SGP&C
-    SGL
And Group Functions : COO, Finance & Risks
In addition to 2 transversal activities:
-    FIT for the Functional Architecture, Innovation and Transversal Services
-    Core Reinsurance which gather common tools & practices around Omega, Analytics/Business Intelligence


Key duties and responsibilities
Context and role

You join the IT Division: Innovation, Architecture & Transversal solutions, to execute mission on IT functional architecture of solutions, ensuring functional architecture transversally with IT Division Managers. You will be a key people to ease communication and anticipate complexity to find efficient solutions for projects. You have a global view on architecture, know how to translate functional needs of IS with all business constraints & resources. You are aware of technical impacts and can share decisions with applicative and technical Architects. You have a hand in both core IT and agile projects.
  
Responsibilities
Support the development of large internal data lakes at the centre of SCOR’s long-term data strategy
•    Identify appropriate structures in which to store data and implement these
•    Consider all stakeholder views and legal/ethical constraints
•    Assist with global infrastructure, such as:
o    SCOR’s Data Analytics Solutions Platform
o    Visualisation tools

Large data handling and exploration
•    Learn, develop and deploy the necessary techniques and tools required to analyse large datasets for commercial insight 
•    Pro-actively consider different ways of doing things to improve efficiency or reliability


Required experience & competencies
Must have: 

  • Professional experience as data engineer with at least 5 years overall experience in software engineering or related fields
  • Good knowledge of software development best practice and code/model versioning (git usage, docstring, CI/CD, knowledge of model versioning platforms like MLflow/DVC is a plus)
  •  Expert knowledge of databases and database query tools (SQL and NoSQL)
  • Expert knowledge of common data engineering and data science programming languages, such as Python
  • Experience with cloud native application architectures
  • Sensitive to scalability issues (parallel computing with framework like Spark, familiar with some data pipeline/ETL is a plus – like Databricks, DeltaLake, etc.)
  • Experience with at least one cloud provider between: Azure, AWS, Alibaba


Desirable Skills 

  • Good knowledge of API development and best practices (openapi, OAuth2.0,etc.) 
  • Good knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker is a plus
  • Good knowledge of microservice architecture patterns
  • UK insurance industry or healthcare/medical experience
  • Some actuarial training
  • Knowledge of SAS
  • Experience of Agile techniques
  • Experience of teaching/training others
  • Professional experience in data science with strong programming capacities and advanced knowledge of machine learning models, text mining, artificial intelligence, and supervised/unsupervised machine learning techniques
  • Understanding of predictive modelling concepts
  • Understanding of machine learning interpretability and ethics and familiar with some explanability tools (e.g. SHAP)
  • Data Engineering certification 
  • Some experience in web applications
