Job Summary:

Focused on developing mutually beneficial client relationships with an emphasis on client needs and profitable business acquisition strategies.  This specifically involves client-facing account ownership responsibilities, understanding relevant issues affecting portfolio performance, and in-depth knowledge of the uses of reinsurance to solve client challenges.  This position will collaborate with a wide range of internal Key Business Partners to develop and refine client solutions.

 

Key Responsibilties:

  • Lead client account relationships and develop account strategies for profitable business, including both new business and inforce
  • Partner closely with key clients to gain an understanding of their needs and our opportunity to build a mutually beneficial arrangement
  • Support new business acquisition goals
  • Build, maintain and improve professional relationships with the key decision makers within targeted accounts through deal negotiations and client visits/calls
  • Participate as a key member of the team marketing Traditional Life, Innovation and VELOGICASM solutions, products and services in accordance with the organization's growth goals
  • Establish expertise and credibility by participating or serving on relevant industry committees and through engagement at key industry conferences.  Maintain knowledge of key industry issues
  • Strategically position SCOR by soliciting input from clients in regards to emerging industry trends and competitive intelligence
  • Establish SCOR as a thought leader in the industry by writing for SCOR’s client newsletters and industry publications, and by attending and speaking at targeted industry conferences
  • Collaborate with the Pricing Actuary to accurately develop a commercial best-estimate assumption set by communicating unique deal circumstances, planned terms and conditions, key client changes, etc., possibly challenging existing pricing standards in favor of a custom approach that more accurately reflects the underlying risk
  • Support the Pricing Team in ensuring the rational application of pricing policies, procedures and techniques to the valuation of new business opportunities.
  • Approve deals or escalate as appropriate, documenting key risks, mitigation strategies, the impact of deal-specific circumstances, terms and conditions on pricing assumptions selected
  • Manage business review for all potential deals with an emphasis on fundamentally understanding and communicating the rationale for the deal and the chosen profit target, the risk associated with the deal, specific mitigation employed, our competitive position, outstanding issues and steps/effort needed to close
  • Act as the client expert in facilitating effective, profitable solution design with other SCOR subject matter experts
  • Identify client- or competition-based "red flags"; develop a plan and recruit resources to overcome
  • Lead a company wide client team to manage ongoing and historical technical/business issues with SCOR clients, including resolution of amendment requests, finalizing outstanding treaties and negotiating exceptions to previously agreed requirements
  • Have an ongoing focus on Continuous Improvement and sharing all we learn

 

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of insurance / reinsurance experience in actuarial and business positions of increasing responsibility
  • A thorough technical grounding in insurance pricing and needs of direct life insurance writers
  • 3 years of experience in facilitating business decisions, demonstrating leadership of direct or indirect teams
  • Effective multi-tasker with demonstrated comfort and ability to effectively prioritize and manage several high-stakes transactions with sense of urgency and a results orientation
  • Persuasive communicator in terms of written and oral communications, including formal and informal presentations, including effective listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Passionate team player, collaborating where needed with team members, in an effort to achieve organizational growth, profitability and operational goals
  • Self-motivated, creative and intellectually curious individual who is able to cut new business paths.
  • Ability to act as Team Leader with respect to Client Service Team responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach and otherwise develop other colleagues in the art and science of reinsurance relationship management
  • Takes accountability for role and results and holds others accountable
