Job Summary

The Corporate Actuarial team is seeking a transformative leader with deep modeling experience to lead the modeling project team and to spearhead the modernization of SCOR US’s actuarial modeling & reporting processes. This individual will be leading key modeling initiatives and play a critical role in driving the success of modeling SCOR US’s life business.


-Key duties and responsibilities

  • Lead in project planning, direct the technical delivery of actuarial projects, and ensure the integrity of the financial results via appropriate controls and review protocols
  • Support the explanation of financial results and business impacts to senior leadership
  • Collaborate with the governance team in reviewing the business results and complete governance documentation for the actuarial projects and modeling changes 
  • Develop and mentor direct reports, provide guidance regarding their development, share knowledge and insights
  • Collaborate with inforce optimization teams and support the valuation for management action on SCOR US’s life business
  • Act as a true business partner with the various stakeholders of the actuarial modeling process, both within Corporate Actuarial as well as the broader company
  • Serve as an ambassador for the Corporate Actuarial department across the organization, providing insight and value derived from a detailed understanding of our models and the underlying business
  • Ability to balance the need for continuous improvement with the rigor and controls required of a valuation function responsible for producing key inputs to the financial statements
  • Writing up of governance documentations and delivering results through the governance process.
  • Ensure that appropriate and auditable controls, reconciliations and documentation are maintained with respect to valuation, economic reporting and modeling.
  • Mentor and coach associates to provide knowledge and growth opportunities.
  • Occasional support for the quarterly production work where needed.



-Required experience & education

  • Must have 5+ years’ FSA designation
  • ​​​​​​​Must have 5+ years’ modeling experience with Prophet
  • Must have 10+ years’ experience with financial valuation and modeling
  • 10+ years of experience in actuarial modeling and/or leading modeling project
  • Deep expertise with actuarial modeling software, including Prophet
  • Experience with workflow tools like Alteryx, or scripting language like Python a plus
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to make strategic decisions
  • Significant experience in IFRS or SII reporting standards, preferably for traditional life type products
  • Experience managing projects and effectively representing department at various meetings
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members
  • Strong organizational & planning skills with ability to meet multiple competing deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to understand broader picture and impact of decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement departmental processes and controls and ensure appropriately documented
  • Technically astute within the actuarial discipline and industry software applications
  • Able to communicate with the CFO and CEO on broad business issues and how the interaction of those business processes and decisions affect our business plan
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal, written and relationship building
  • The ability to build & maintain relationships with colleagues throughout SCOR
  • Rapid and consistent increase in responsibilities within an organization, preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field with demonstrated record of academic excellence

  • FSA (or equivalent) designation from the Society of Actuaries
